The short version
- We keep only what the game needs to run: your scout, your progress and your chats.
- We don't sell your information. Today the game has no ads and no outside tracking or analytics tools. From launch, it will offer optional reward videos (see section 2).
- Kampfire is for ages 13 and up.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the game or from this website.
Kampfire ("we", "us") makes the game Kampfire and runs this website. We are an independent studio based in Quebec, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. If you have a question, write to privacy@kampfire.app.
1. What we collect, and why
| What | Why | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Your account: your scout's name, whether you picked a boy or a girl scout, your month and year of birth, when you joined and when you last played. To sign you in, your device keeps a sign-in key; we only store a scrambled copy (a hash) of it. | To run your account, check your age and show your scout to other players. | Until you delete your account. |
| Your game: your monsters, items, teams, progress, guild, friends, the scouts you block, your in-game mail and the game's record of what you earned and spent in the game. | To run the game, and to fix mistakes or restore something lost. | Until you delete your account. In-game letters expire after 30 days. |
| Chat and messages: what you write. Camp bubbles show for a few seconds and are not stored. We keep the latest 500 World chat messages, guild chat while the guild exists, and the latest 200 private messages between two friends. | So players can talk, and to keep the game safe (rude words are hidden automatically). | As described here; your own messages are deleted with your account. |
| Reports: when a player reports someone, we keep the report, the reason and the recent chat messages it is about. | To keep the game safe and act on bad behaviour. | As long as needed for safety. If you delete your account, reports you sent are no longer linked to you. |
| Purchases (once the Store sells with real money): what you bought, the price and when. Payments go through Google Play or Apple; we never see your card details. | To give you what you bought, help if something goes wrong, keep the spending limit for younger players, and keep our books. | As long as tax law requires (in Canada, usually 6 years). If you delete your account, they are no longer linked to you. |
| Technical information: your IP address, used for a moment to protect our servers from abuse (limits on sign-ups and requests). It is not saved with your account. Our web servers keep standard logs (IP address, browser, page or service asked for, time). | Security and keeping the game running. | Logs: up to 90 days. |
| When you write to us: your email address and your message. The game's Contact page shows details you can copy into your email (scout name and code, game version, phone model); they reach us only if you send them. | To answer you. | As long as needed to help you, then deleted. |
2. Ads, and what we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information.
- Today the game shows no ads, and it contains no outside analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
- This website uses no cookies and no trackers.
Reward videos, from launch
When the game launches, it will offer optional reward videos: you choose to watch one, for example for extra energy or for double prizes after a fight, and you get the prize. Nothing plays unless you tap it. The videos will be shown by Unity LevelPlay and the ad networks it works with. When a video plays, the ad provider receives information about your device: its advertising ID, IP address, model and language, and how you interacted with the video. They use it to show the video, count it and stop fraud.
- Personalized ads (picked from what the ad networks know about you) play only if you agree. You can say no and still get every prize.
- Players under 16 only see ads that aren't personalized.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your phone's settings (on Android: Settings > Google > Ads).
Before the videos go live, we will update this policy with the list of ad networks, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
3. Personalized offers
The game has a Personalized offers switch (Settings > Options). It starts off. While it is off, everyone sees the same Store. If you turn it on, the game uses how you play and spend (for example, a stage you keep losing on) to pick special offers for you. You can turn it off at any time; an offer waiting for you then goes away.
4. Ages and younger players
Kampfire is for players aged 13 and up. When you make a scout, we ask your month and year of birth. Players under 13 can't make a scout. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we delete it. Players aged 13 to 15 can spend at most $50 a month in the Store. Parents can write to privacy@kampfire.app with any question.
5. Companies that help us
We share only what each one needs to do its job:
- A hosting company runs our game servers, in Canada.
- A network company runs our domain names, delivers the game's download files and stores our encrypted backups. It may handle data outside Quebec and Canada.
- Google Play and Apple's App Store distribute the game and will handle payments. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Unity LevelPlay and its ad networks will show the reward videos, from launch (section 2).
- Discord hosts our community server, only if you choose to join it. Discord's privacy policy applies.
- Our email provider receives the emails you send us.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect players and the game from fraud or abuse. Write to privacy@kampfire.app if you want the names of these companies.
6. Where your information is stored
Your account and game data are stored on our servers in Canada. Our backups are encrypted on our server before they leave it, then kept with a backup provider that may be outside Quebec and Canada.
7. How we protect it
Connections to the game and this website are encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in keys are stored scrambled, backups are encrypted, our servers are behind a firewall, and only the people who run Kampfire can reach the data. No system is perfect: if an incident puts your information at risk of serious harm, we will tell you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- see the personal information we hold about you, and how we use it;
- correct it;
- delete it (see Delete your account);
- give you a copy in a common computer format;
- stop a use you agreed to, such as Personalized offers.
Write to privacy@kampfire.app with your scout's name. We may ask a question to make sure the account is yours, and we answer within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the privacy authority where you live.
9. Person in charge
The person in charge of the protection of personal information at Kampfire is its founder. You can reach them at privacy@kampfire.app.
10. Changes
When we change this policy, we post the new version here with a new date. For important changes, we also tell you in the game before they apply.
